EDL is a State Owned Enterprise (SOE) has the objective of promoting economic development in the Lao PDR by providing electric current and related services to consumers by the most economical means, but subject to the requirements place on it. As an autonomous SOE it is required to be profitable and self-financing to meet the lender’s loan covenants and performance targets set by the state. |
EDL’s business activities are to search for electrical energy sources, to generate, transmit, sell and purchase electricity both inside and outside the country, to import vehicles, electrical materials and equipment for its use, to invest and participate in joint venture investments for the generation, transmission and sale of electricity, to service, to repair and produce equipment relating to the electrical industry and other subsidiary activities for its sole purpose and for domestic and foreign market sale. |
