		In 1990, the Center started new short-term training. introduction of short-term training. We are currently undertaking 45 training courses, which last 2-5 weeks. The scopes of our training cover Generation, Distribution and Management Fields. Recently IPP projects have been carried out. Obviously training needs have changed drastically in the last decade. We are required to be applied to the current trend. Some donors, such as
EDF, ADB and JICA, also assisted the Center to introduce new training courses. The Center plans our training, both training of EDL staff and private company's staff, will be activated more and more. This results in provision of well-qualified staff. Consequently power sector in Lao PDR will be developed in the future.

What the Center Offer....

In the past we have offered to several companies. In accordance with our mission, we will provide training courses to companies who are interested in our training programs. our training programs can be divided into 3 subjects:

(1) Management

(2) Generations

(3) Distributions

Introduction of EDL training center

The EdL training center was established in 1965. The missions of EDL training center are as follows,

(1) To enhance capacities for EDL staff to operate hydropower plants (HPP) and facilities
(2) To provide basic knowledge of maintaining substation and distribution system 22kV
(3) To train the new staff for the new facility or new HPP or off-grid system
(4) To train a participant from another companies

In order to fulfill our mission, we have 3 training programs;

(i) Management
(ii) Generation
(iii) Transmission and Distribution.
In each training program, the Center provides various training courses.

Facilities at EDL training center

The EDL training center is located in Sokpaluang, Vientiane Capital. The Center composes of 5 buildings for training and seminars. The Center is also equipped with some simulators and tools. Combination of lecturers and these tools improves training effectiveness. The summary of the equipment is as follows,

Brief History of the Center

1965 – 67 The training course was implemented Sisaket Substation
1967 – 76 The Center was established in Sokpaluang
1976 – 82 The Center belonged to Ministry of Industry and Handricrafts
1982 – 90 The Center belonged to EDL.

Duration of training was 2 years.

1990 – 93 The 2-3 week training courses in distribution were introduced.
2000 – 09 The 2-5 week training courses in Hydropower Generation were introduced.
2006 – 09 JICA introduced Technical Standards courses
